Samples of Work
enclosure of window
The homeowners were looking to enclose a window in their garage for both privacy and an increase in storage space (wall cabinets to be added in the future). We demo’d the existing window and framed in the opening. On the exterior wall, we did our best to texture our new stucco to match that on the rest of the house. On the interior, we drywalled, sanded, and painted for a seamless finish.
Custom shelf installation
We designed, built, and installed custom shelves for “The Well”, a local business here in Topanga. The main concepts were: maximize display space, and keep the design as clean and eco-friendly as possible. FSC-certified plywood was used as the primary material, and no chemicals were used to treat/seal it.
shade valance
For this project, the customer wanted a valance that would cover the shade for the quad-sliding door that was approximately 18’ wide. The end product needed to blend seamlessly with the existing walls and ceiling. The top left photo shows the installation process, and the top right the finished result. The bottom left is a detail of the right side in progress, and the bottom right is the same area finished (the painters had yet to do the ceiling). We worked with the owner on design and material choices, then fabricated and installed the piece.
Fence replacement
For this project we took down and hauled away the old fence — then put up a new redwood fence in its place. The client chose galvanized steel posts with vertical fence pickets in the backyard in order to better withstand the strong winds and water from sprinklers. The front yard is better protected from those elements, so they went with wooden posts and horizontal boards for a very appealing look.
drop-in Soaking Tub
With this project, the owner was looking to maximize their limited backyard. While not quite big enough for a jacuzzi, an outdoor soaking tub was an excellent solution. We helped with design ideas, then did the custom build-out that turned the existing landing and stairs into an outdoor relaxation zone.
Koi Pond
Sometimes the trickiest aspect of a project is resolving the new construction with existing, especially if the existing is not square, level, or plumb. And while I love Topanga, square, level, and plumb can be hard to come by. For this project the owner wanted to keep the existing stone wall, Ipe wood platform, and stairs, and have the koi pond merge seamlessly with those existing elements. The finished project is a rectangular cinder-block pond enclosure that is reinforced with concrete and rebar, then lined with 15mm rubber pond liner, and finished with beautiful and long-lasting Ipe wood.
Pool deck
For this deck we used composite wood. It costs a bit more up front, but in the long run it’s often a better deal than wood: no painting, no staining, and no splinters — very important around a pool. It’s also eco-friendly, made from recycled materials.
